A Mystical Evening Over Lake Como

September 16, 2016

Lake Como is big enough to be dotted by wonderful ancient towns yet small enough to drive around in a day. The towns that surround the lake have village centers on the water but many of the residents live on the sides of the steep mountains that surround the lake. At twilight we decided to take a detour off the main road and go up as far as we could to see what was there. There were beautiful villas aside Appalachian style shacks (if you can call a cement block with a tile roof a shack.

Here is the view from the town of Dongo on the western shore looking north with the town of Colico Piano directly across the lake and Gera Lario in the distance. Gera Lario is where the river that snakes down from the Swiss Alps and feeds Lake Como enters the lake.
